H i Guys! H ope you all doing well! Have been away for quite some time now. I don’t know if you all find my blogs interesting, let’s figure out if you all like what I write or the way I try to put thoughts forward. I believe by now you would know that I do have some knowledge about the things I write! Well, this is still just bits & part of what Crossfit is all about. In this blog I would conclude the 9 Foundational movements. Believe me these foundational movements got the hell outta me. Everything when seen seems to be very easy to perform & pretty cool. When I first started my Crossfit journey everything I would see was quite easy. But, when I actually did a particular movement I realised this S*** is way tougher than I thought it would be. It’s rightly said you need to be crazy to perform such high intensity workouts. Craziness goes to the extent of “Mental Illness”. You would start loving the feeling about screwing yourself daily. Hahaha... Well after all i

Overhead Squats (OHS) - Stability, Mobility & Strenght

Image
Overhead Squats (OHS) T he overhead squat is a great exercise— but do you know how this movement is useful to us? It helps us promote mobility, stability & strength of our entire body. Let’s find out how? The overhead squat has gotten some good press lately because of CrossFit. You would probably have a liking towards performing an Overhead Squat because: 1.    It’s Hard 2.    It looks cool H owever, would not recommend to add this movement in your regimen just because you want to look bad-ass. I f you find yourself at the bottom of an overhead squat and suddenly wonder, "Why the hell am I doing this?" you're asking yourself a really good question. T he Overhead Squat is majorly used as a mobility-training device. The strength carryover it has to other lifts like the snatch, back squat, front squat & overhead press is negligible. So, if would think you’re doing them to get your legs stronger, they won’t work like you think they will. However, the overhead squ

Squats - Foundational Movement

Squat W hen we come to think of Squats, all we hear is “This is wrong!” I keep wondering how everyone can have a different form to perform a squat… Are there really different forms or everyone just perform their own & believe this is the right form! Let’s try & understand this myth of “This is wrong!” I’ve come to the below conclusion after trying to understand what & how shall a Squat be done? F irstly, many of us consider squat to be a “leg” exercise, it’s really a full body movement that works just every muscle group in the body. S econdly, it mimics a ton of natural movement patterns in everyday life.  In my opinion, squats are the most useful exercise we can do when it comes to strength training. Gain strength or lose weight, squats are one of the fastest ways to get there. My advice to beginners, Never fear! Let’s get to know Squats in a better manner. Why squat? S quats are one of the most foundational functional movements in our lives. We all have been sq

Deadlift - Foundational Movement

Image
Hi! N ow that we all have a fair idea of what is Crossfit? Let’s focus on one of the 9 Foundational Movement’s i.e. Deadlift. Now why Deadlift? This is one of my favourite foundational movement. Since, not everyone is able to get the right form to perform a deadlift, I would like to share my experience. When I was new to this world of Crossfit I had this fear of the deadlift, but this important lift is one of the best for building total-body strength, size, and athleticism. I consider the barbell deadlift one of the best damned exercises around, period. Whether you want to build muscle, burn fat, increase athleticism, or focus purely on gaining strength, I'd say it's the one movement every lifter must do. T he trouble is, since I was new to the iron I didn’t know how to approach this beneficial barbell lift and use it effectively. Well, I considered my trouble solved! I’ve been guided by my trainer Siddharth Shah very efficiently, was deadlifting like a pro before I knew i

Paleo Diet

What is Paleo Diet? The Paleo Diet is an effort to eat like we used to eat back in the stone age days…WAY back. If a caveman couldn’t eat it, neither can you. This means you can eat anything he could hunt or gather – meats, fish, nuts, leafy greens, regional veggies, and seeds. I'm really bad at keeping track of what I consume, specially when it comes to calories, I don't really bother as it's really tough to keep a check on the same. Moreover, all the stuff we consume has a different level of calories. Wish all were at the same level! After lots & lots of research, reading several articles & trying to figure out what exactly is Paleo diet; I came across a very simplified chart to make things easy for all like me to make an attempt to understand this diet. Do's & Don't Don't eat: Cereal Grains Legumes (Including Peanuts) Dairy Refines Sugar Potatoes Processed Foods Refined Vegetable Oil Salt Eat: Grass Produced F

First Step to Crossfit

First Step to Crossfit Crossfit is EVERYWHERE these days You can watch the Crossfit Games on ESPN. Watch commercials, motivational & tutorials on You Tube. It has a huge presence online. As a matter of fact people working out in gyms have yet to get familiar with Crossfit. Believe me, to do Crossfit one needs to be crazy about fitness, physically as well as mentally You might be wondering, "Hey Canute! What the hell is Crossfit, and is it for me?" It goes back in 2012 when Reebok had introduced Crossfit in India. Since 2012, we have had many Indian Crossfit Athletes who have done remarkable job. But has it penetrated the Indian hearts? I'm just making an attempt to voice out that Crossfit is something everybody should do, can do or shall at least make an attempt to do it. What the Hell is Crossfit? Crossfit is advertised, in four words, as "The Sport of Fitness" The Crossfit prescription is performing “functional movements that are consta
